Babson Business:  Crelligence Media LLC

undefined

Name of business:  Crelligence Media LLC  doing business as CrellTube; http://www.crelligence.com/

Company Description: An online platform that allows filmmakers to create commercials for companies and distribute them through video sharing websites like YouTube, AOL , and MySpace.

CrellTube's Mission Statement:

Establish Crelltube as the premier online video marketing firm by empowering filmmakers around the world to get paid for pursuing their passion and allowing companies to gain a cheaper and more user-engaging exposure.

Began : 2008

Initial Investment: $10,000

Founders, Babson College UGrads:  Alexander Debelov, alexander@crelligence.com, 857 277 9757; Alexey Ossikine, alexey@crelligence.com, 617 771 1588

Employees: 7

Founder's Past Life/Business:

Alexander Debelov was a lead intern at Tadpole Ventures, an LA based Venture Capital firm, his freshman year. At Tadpole, Alexander performed research and modeling of various elements of urban planning and design for a multibillion-dollar real estate development project that involved building a city on an island.

Alexey Ossikine spearheaded an IT system initiative at Gazprom, the world's largest energy company, and co-founded Benevici Consulting, a Boston-based consulting firm that provides unique solutions to small businesses. He also has experience in growing an international family business.

How the Idea Began: (Alexander) I wanted to apply my passion of filmmaking to the Web 2.0 concept of user generated content. I wanted to reward filmmakers around the world for the valuable work that they produce and found the perfect opportunity to connect them with companies through the Internet.

Favorite Thing about the Business:  Within four days of launching a demo version of our website, we have already received video submissions, a job request from an accomplished producer, an offer to provide voluntary assistance in website development, and even 430 sign-ups without spending a single cent on marketing! It's fun to see that people are just as excited about our concept as we are.

Worst Thing about the Business:  Receiving an overwhelming number of e-mails from impatient filmmakers eager to get started!

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge so far has been finding good people to perform various aspects of web design. We probably went through 50 applicants before we found someone that fit our criteria.

Lesson Learned:  There have been many obstacles that we have encountered along the way, but constant motivation and the belief that this will work has kept us afloat. "Never give up," would be the best advice we could give to anyone starting a new business.

Cafeteria Oil Fuels Campus Vehicles

Using a biodiesel processing plant, Babson College is converting waste vegetable oil from campus restaurants to biodeisel for use in diesel powered equipment to maintain the campus grounds.

Biodiesel burns cleaner than petro diesel producing less greenhouse gases and particulate emissions.

The process of converting waste vegetable oil (WVO) to biodiesel is called transesterification.  Process breaks bonds in WVO molecules using sodium hydroxide and Methanol to get methyl esters/Biodiesel which is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

WVO is collected by facilities staff from restaurants on campus (Trim, Reynolds, Hockey Rink).  The Process Plant is located in the facilities garage.  The plant is comprised of a lab, reactor, catalyst tank and settling/product tank.

Fuel is used as a blend with petro-diesel or 100% in facilities grounds keeping equipment.

Babson Entrepreneur  Shapes New "Tude" about Hot Dogs

                    undefined

Babson MBA alum Ari Wurmann doesn't consider himself a restaurateur.  He 's more comfortable thinking of himself as an entrepreneur with a big idea...making the hot dog, a top dog in the franchise industry.

His Franktitude, a different kind of eatery---five shops with a sixth on the way in Miami—is a top notch alternative to fast food, quicker and more affordable than fast casual, that's all about freshness and choices.  There are some 50 toppings to spread on hot dogs, salads, and sandwiches.

Ari opened five Franktitudes simultaneously in 2006 just after earning his Babson MBA.  Originally from Chile, he and his family decided to make Miami home, and like most Babson students, Ari developed the initial plans for Franktitude while a student at Babson.

"Franktitude is changing consumers' perceptions about hot dogs," said Ari, who today addressed a class of MBA students visiting from Chile and Venezuela.  He said that surprisingly, 75% of Franktitude customers are women.  "They see the quality of the product, and have come to believe that it is a healthier, ok kind of food to eat."  Hot dogs at the eatery aren't just pork and beef anymore.  Some top dog choices also include salmon, tofu, and chicken.  Price point is about $5.49 per meal including beverage and side of sweet potato fries (optional).

Ari's 11- D's of Entrepreneurship--Dream, Doers, Decisiveness, Determination, Dedication, Devotion, Details, Destiny, Dollars, and Distribution.

Ari's 9- F's of Entrepreneurship—Founders, Focus, Fast, Flexible, Forever-innovating, Flat (keep management), Frugal, Friendly, and Fun.

Ari's New Venture Realities—

Most business plans are obsolete at the printer.

A venture is always a work in progress.

Speed and adaptability are crucial.

If you fall quickly, recoup quickly.

Success is situational—dependent on time, space, context, and luck.

One salmon, chili dog to go please, hold the mustard!
