Hyundai President receives the “Global Entrepreneur Award” Businessman Carlos Mattos received the renowned “Global Entrepreneur Award,” granted by the prestigious university, Babson College.
The distinguished Colombian was awarded this recognition April 8 by Babson College, which is ranked # 1 for Entrepreneurship.
The Global Entrepreneur Award is bestowed annually to only one person in the world. Mattos became the only Latin American that has been granted this exclusive award, next to the Venezuelan businessman, Gustavo Cisneros. In considering candidates, the award committee’s main criterion is that the businessperson has been successful with a company in at least three countries.
In addition to the award, Mattos was invited to present Hyundai’s introduction and expansion within Colombia as a global business case. He also discussed the development of the Cinascar Company in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador as the introduction of Chinese brand vehicles into the area.
Mattos’ accomplishments include not only a strategic alliance and successful company, but also a series of other successes within and outside of Colombia. Perhaps the most known of his successes is Hyundai Colombia Automotriz S.A., which he has served as president and founder since 1992. Mattos completed his Master’s degree at Babson College in 1976.
Hyundai is currently the third most sold brand in Colombia (in spite of Mazda being a local assembler,) and the number one between all imported brands.
On April 5th, Mattos also received on behalf of Hyundai Colombia Automotriz S.A., on Margarita Island, the award as the best Hyundai distributor in Latin America. Mattos received this award on four occasions in the only 9 years of its having been instituted.
