Edward Barnard Hinckley

Biographical

Edward Hinckley was born in West Newton, MA on October 24, 1903. He attended Harvard College where he received a B.A. in Chemistry in 1924 and an M.A. in Chemistry from Harvard in 1926.  He shifted academic gears entering the Ph.D. program in English where he earned his degree in 1932. He taught at the University of Tampa and Kalamazoo College. At Kalamazoo he he became acting Dean and then acting President in 1942. After leaving Babson in 1956 he served as executive coordinator of the Dana Hall School until 1959. From 1959-1972 he taught at several colleges in Florida.  He retired from teaching in 1972.  In 1987 he donated his collection of nautica to the Horn Library where it can be found in the Jamie Horner Lounge.  Dr. Hinckley died September 21, 1988 in Auburn, ME.

Babson Years

Park Manor North is built. Poor’s Publishing Building is purchased and renamed Hollister Hall. Channing Sanitarium is bought with the idea that it would be the future home of the MBA program but becomes Woodland Hill instead.

Undergraduate Program is accredited by the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Liberal arts offerings are expanded.

MBA program begins.

The Babson World Globe is built.

The Babson Horn Library currently houses the Edward B. Hinckley Collection of nautica and railway history.
